Children develop at different rates. Milestones can help you notice emerging movement, communication, social interaction and play skills; they are not a diagnostic checklist.
Early responses
May briefly lift the head while lying on the front, notice faces and begin social smiling.
Social smiles and reaching
May support the head better, recognise familiar people and begin reaching towards objects.
Rolling and vocal play
May roll, sit with support, babble and enjoy familiar interactions.
Sitting and exploration
May sit without support, explore objects and respond to their own name.
Movement and grasp
May pull up towards standing and develop more precise finger grasp.
First steps and words
May cruise along furniture, use gestures and begin simple words.
Curiosity and early play
May take steps, point to favourite things and participate in simple games.
Imitation and exploration
May walk confidently, point to body parts and try pretend play.
Language and coordination
May put words together, follow two-step instructions and play alongside others.
Growing independence
Language, movement, social play, imagination and problem-solving continue to develop.
